Hey yall, I'm gonna write a review here on my header install in hopes that it will help someone out down the line.. The car is a 1972 Maverick 4 door with a 302 and a C4 column shift. The headers are Walker/Dynomax/Black Jacks. Summit part no. WLK-85112 ($115.95) it includes everything needed for installation; gaskets, reducers, and all hardware. Also needed to be purchased seperate is the power steering drop bracket, part no. WLK-88303 ($16.95). After the old exhaust was removed the car was jacked up ~20 inches. On the passenger side, a bolt that pretrudes into the engine bay threw the fender well had to be unscrewed and have about a half inch shortened for clearence then reinstalled, no real problem. Then the passenger side header slid right in like a glove. Bolt it on, and then jack the car up about 8 more inches. Completely remove the column shifter linkage, its bracket on the chassis, and the pivot on the block. Disconnect the power steering arm from the bracket, then remove the bracket from the frame. Then remove motor mount bolt and jack the engine up a few inches. Now wrestle the header up and into position. My header had to be slightly dimpled on the no. 8 pipe the clear the steering box. Now bolt on the new power steering drop bracket, one of the bolts had to be shortened to avoid hitting the header, and hook up the steering arm thing. And now both headers should be snuggly in place. And now for the column shifter. The multi linkage thing is no longer going to be used, only the rod from the column and the rod on the trans is going to be used. Look from the column bracket down to the bracket on the tranny between the header and the firewall, its almost a staight shot. So just bend the rods untill they meet and don't hit anything and weld them together. It will take a bit of time getting all the angles right. And grind off the unused nipples on the rods and weld the two rods together so that they look like a single rod, gotta make it look good. Over all the Black Jack headers fit really good and the column shifter was just a minor hassle. It took about a total of 15 hours to complete. Disclaimer: this is just an overview of my experience, yours may differ, use common sense.. if you mess something up or get killed I am not responsable. Jon
Nice write up. very encouraging as i needed to see someone do this while keeping the column shift and PS.
