i have stumbled onto an old salvage yard that has stopped being a active yard years ago, I found two 72 Mavericks so far both two door and one a Grabber, I'm going back to catelog what good parts are there for instance the Grabber has good bumpers, the back bumper has the bumperettes, I thought those only came on the big bumpers. Anyway there is one good grill with the lights in it another small crack but maybe repairable, the grabber has a 3 piece rear deck spoiler and good sport mirrors, I'm taking those. What I would like is input to any pieces I should get pictures and pricing on, keep in mind these have been weathered many years and the interior is not useable, I'm going tomorrow so please help me if you have an interest, attached are a few pics to give an idea of condition.
The hoods interchange 70-77 ... no worries there. If either car has bucket seats, get them and the tracks, and be sure to get the four riser pieces as well. Front and rear valences. I see 4 bolt wheels, so assuming both are 6 cylinder? When you are getting the rear spoiler, be sure to get the little filler piece between the fender extension and bumper, too. Happy Scavenging!
Ok thanks I don't know if the grabber is a 4 bolt or not, it was an AC car however the motor is gone and the grabber hood is gone, what piece are you referring to as the lip, do you mean the chrome trim. I have a 72 hood at home that's straight but no trim piece I sold it, I'll be at the salvage yard in one hour.
I would go one further and take the entire harness from the Grabber if it is not hacked up. If there are bucket seats, don't forget the metal reinforcement plate on the floorboard. All the AC parts are good to take. I'm actually looking for parts. With how hard it can be to find good parts, I would take everything I could. You may regret not taking something. Micah
Let me clarify this salvage yard is not active anymore however the owner is not letting me go in and take what I want for free, he's a contrary ole codger but knows the worth somewhat although I got the sport mirrors for $15 pair, I don't think he realized they were selling for up to 10 times that.
These are pics of the hood I have, the rust you see is surface, hood is solid I sanded it down to the spot you see and it's close to smooth then shot it with primer to hopefully give you an idea.
FYI, as an update to anyone interested the 1972 Grabber is a factory 302 w/AC car, I'm posting some pics if anybody is interested in the bumpers, the ole boy must have got to asking around about value he had told me $200 for both well I assumed that included front and rear valance and stone guard with all mounting hardware.....wrong, he wants $300 for everything however this place is in a small town out in the sticks and it's not an active yard he will take less, he will have to in my opinion.
Someone will want the frame mounts, belly bar, and trans crossmember out of that V8 car. Throttle cable and intake manifold bracket too if they are there. I am guessing both cars are blue? The 4 bolt rear axle in the one picture would indicate 6 cylinder, but except for the stripes in the other picture, it looks like pics of just one car ... a little confusing.
