Ok so heres my car...302 rebuilt bored over .60 got the whole edelbrock package, performer rpm heads, torker-II cam and intake, 600 cfm carb, hooker headers, bassani x-pipe, 40's flows,2900 stall, 4.11 gears with m/t et street raidials, crane cams ignition box,msd wires, and a pro coil that will shock the **** out of you..believe me I know haha Ok now to me...it doesnt feel fast enough:/ Can anybody suggest how to get more power from my car
Either dyno it, or run it at the strip and develop a good tune/baseline... Gotta have a place to start. Just because it doesnt feel fast dont mean it isnt.
I wanna take it to the track but its on the other side of town here in san antonio...i raced a 06 gt and beat it easily...idk if thats fast
Hmm which one woukd be better?? Its my daily driver but job is just down the street, somebody told me to put it at 32 but I told him he's crazy...chevy guys haha
Yeah I know, thats the only problem I have with the block. Machine shop didnt tell me they were going that far with it
Ignition timing is particular to each individual engine set up. Cam/compression, type of heads/ignition system and quality/octane of fuel you are useing are some of the particulars. Start at 10 BTDC Initial and 28 to 30 deg total ingnition advance. Try to have the total adv at 30 deg at 3000 RPM and start from there.Gradually increase your initial and total timing till, it starts to ping (spark knock)Then back it off 2 deg and try again. This is just a ball park figure/proceedure...You really need to dyno the car or spend some time at the drag strip doing test and tune to achieve the best timing curve as well as carb tuneing to optimize your combo. There are alot of variables to consider when tuneing the car for best power/performance. Also remember your tune for best power may not be the most efficient for regular street use/manners...Unless its purely a drag car, you may have to compromise your tune for best street performance/efficiency...
that was my thought. boring a 302 that much is not a good thing. you could be wasting HP if the piston walls are flexing due to heat. that is if its a stock block. good luck! go buy a NOS dry kit and spray it with a 100 shot, or set up a two stage nitro kit. unless you plan on a full out racer, why worry?
You do realize he meant total not initial? Every engine will be different a good base is 10*. Some will like way more, my old engine loved 16* and never pinged or nosed off. But my neighbors 5.0L loves 10... As for total you should shoot for 32-40 by 2,500-3,000RPM.
Nos scares me...lol I was thinking of buying another block, either 331,347, or a 351 & stroke it too for more power
331/347s' are stroked 302s' A stroked 351W can get you 393/408 or 427 cubic inches. Way to go if you want brutal torque with an engine you dont have to wind up to 7 or 8K rpm. And can be more well mannered than an equivalent power producing 347.
Yes I know they are 302's but with different blocks though...& 351 sounds the easiest without getting rid of the shock towers
