I have a 76 200CI with a 1 barrel carb. Bought the car in March of this year. Drove it home about 50 miles or so. It would not idle on the way home but ran real good off idle. I figured I would rebuild ithe carb and it would be good as new. Well I was wrong! I rebuilt the carb (really not much to it unlike a holley 4 barrel) The car now idles good but I have a hesitation at about 1/4 throttle and could not get rid of it. So I bought a rebuilt one off ebay (I know I know Evelbay) and the hesitation is now gone runs good but again it will not idle. It will idle at a higher RPM than normal with the choke adjusted rich but if I manually open the choke plate full open it dies immediately! So what is it. I think Obviously not enough fuel to air thats why the car dies when choke plate is opened. So any suggestions???

    Thanks Mike

Sounds like a vacuum leak or warped carb base/intake mount flange,or the throttle blade shaft holes are hogged out allowing air in where it shouldnt.Did you put a new gas filter on it??Could be fuel delivery also.Put your rebuilt one back on and try and try to get the 1/4 throttle problem solved.Sounds like the one you rebuilt is a better carb. The part throttle problem could be a fuel delivery deficit within the carb such as not enough accellerator pump stroke/low float setting or crud stuck in carb somewhere.Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I think I might go to the 2 Barrel Set-up.
