After removing the 250 and placing a 302 and MSD ignition in my Mav, there are a lot of extra boxes and wires. Someone told me that I could figure out a way to remove the little grey box under the horn, or even remove the starter solenoid somehow. Does anyone know how to do that?

    Thanks,
    Atzy.

You don't want to remove the starter solinoid or "no start motor"!! unless changing to some other starter that has the solinoid built in, then you would need wiring to trigger it when starting.

Hmmm, okay makes sense. What about the little grey box under the horn, right next to the P/S cooler?

    Thanks,
    Atzy.

    Never Mind

Okay, so after just unplugging the old Duraspark, the car still started fine. Looking at the setup, the MSD circumvented all the old Duraspark stuff anyways (duh). When I get motivated I'll open up all the old looms and cut away the wires that I no longer need.

    Yours,
    Atzy.

    Another way to remove wires...

This is off topic from your MSD question, but I thought I would tell you about it as well. I put a 1990 5.0 in my Maverick, and since it has an internal regulator in the alternator, I have wired it up so I got rid of the stock regulator. Cleans it up nicely. Thought I would tell someone.

    changing alternators

Corbin, can you give me a detailed description regarding how you did that! I have the wiring diagram for the maverick I need to figure out the newer internally regulated alternator. I do have the wiring harness for the newer alternator. Thanks

    Sure thing...

Yes, I will let you know how I did that, but first I have to get this process finished (wiring) and then I will do a detailed description of how to do it. Maybe it could become a FAQ topic. Anyway, I will let you know how it goes.
