putting in granada disk brakes and do not have the coil springs.. what common junkyard car could i pull some springs from that would work well (and fit easily) in the mav? (1971)
When I did mine I used the Granada spindles but kept the stock upper and lower control arms and springs. Not sure why you would need different ones.
RockAuto has brand new springs for Mavericks (if you keep the stock control arms) for like $70+shipping, it might just be worth saving the time of pulling used springs and going for brand new!
If you want to lower the car,get some 6 cyl springs & cut one round out, cheap way but I would not do anymore than that.If you want to do it properly get some 2 in drop spindles.
And unless someone previously rebuilt the front suspension on your car, you passed up a prime opportunity to do something that really should have been done to compliment the swap.
Agreed, I did it. When I got the car the only thing that wasn't stock on the front end was a pair of heavy duty springs with cut coils, lowering the front end almost 3". I completely rebuilt the front end suspension when I did the Granada disc conversion, back closer to the stock configuration, with a 1" lowering kit from Laurel Mountain Mustang. The OP was wondering what springs would fit and I was letting him know that stock ones would work.
First of all, I don't know why anyone would want softer springs up front. Cutting coils from the V-8 springs will lower the stance just fine if you'd rather not install drop spindles. With that said, 250 I-6 and 302 used the same front springs for the Mavericks. The 170 and 200 I-6 springs are softer.
Most 6 cyl springs have a higher spring rate, if not the same, than most V8 springs. The V8 sits farther back in the bay taking the weight with it. http://dixiemaverick.com/DMcoilsprings.html
