I was pursuing the Albuquerque Craigslist and saw these Comet valve covers. I haven't seen any of these in years, not sure if they are hard to find or not. They are cool.

I live 180 miles away or I would check them out.

Are they something that was able to be ordered from Mercury or were they aftermarket?

Yeah.. they've been around for quite some time and there's plenty of places to buy them.

IMO, it would be silly to buy those used ones at that price(plus the shipping). They probably only sell 5 new pairs a year and it's not like those are highly sought after craigslist items anyways. lol

Might be worth cleaning them up if you could get them for 100 bucks including shipping.

Definitely not worth the price when you can get them new for around $150-$160. Those have been around for a long time. The only thing I didn't like about the set I had on my Mustang was the time it took to keep them clean due to the ridges.

yep. And one step further is to paint the entire cover and then polish the high points(flats) of the fins and writing.

Keeps them cleaner and really looks like a nice custom touch without being too gawdy looking. (y)

I am just saying for the extras $30 and no shipping fees I would rather have a new set than some ones dirty set that could be scratched up and possibly damaged.

I bet you after you get the quote to ship them you will be within $10 from a new pair that already are black with the highlights polished.

Oh and there $156.97 plus the black is powder coated.

I fully understand.. I personaly don't like the black powder coating. And I do see that they are offered in polished. If I had the cash I might offer the seller something knowing his asking price. I am not apposed to buying used if there isn't anything but cleaning to do.. If he accepts then I help someone and I get what I wanted.. But again, I understand it's a gamble. I'm a little more cautious when it comes to a part that is supposed to do something like a alternator or carb etc..

I cleaned the pair given to me years ago and painted them. I never got around to cleaning off the flats and polishing them. Hell, I never got to use them (painted) yet :(
