Hey All, First off, thanks for such a great resource, I have already spent hours here doing load of research on the new (to us) car. Last night I completed a deal on a 1971 Grabber for my 15.5 yr old son's first car. I am sure it wont be long before the boy is on here too, but right now he is off fishing at Ross Lake for a few days. Some might say that it's an awful lot of first car, but I started with a 1962 Impala SS (still have it) the wife with a 71 Camaro SS, and my 18 yr old daughter has a 63 T-Bird (in factory pink). As you might already be able to see, I am an automotive whore and not locked into a specific brand, though I was a master tech with Ford for years. The car was listed on craigslist recently and I jumped quickly as I have always had a soft spot for hot Mavericks (YES REALLY!), the fact that it was a factory Grabber sent me into scramble mode to make it happen. From what I know so far, the engine has been replaced with a 91 5.0 HO but retains a carb still (nice Edelbrock carb and manifold). I was also told the tranny was gone through and has a reverse vb in it. It needs floor pans and some seemingly minor spot repairs in door bottoms and quarter corners. Wish I kept the old pieces out of my 68 Mustang that I just replaced, could have at least used them to mock up the replacement pieces in the floor. Its also going to take days and days of work to get through the layers of paint on the thing. While I will certainly be part of the resto of this car, the boy is a natural wrench so he will be doing most of the grunt work. Anyhow, again I am extremely thankful to have found this place, I have not had a question yet that I couldn't find an answer to in the search! I will post pictures tomorrow, gotta go dig it out of the guys garage tonight.
I love father and son projects. In my case its backward, i've worked on all of my fathers cars since i was 15 We also have a TON of members in WA :Handshake Looking forward to the pics!

from Northeast Pennsylvania Washington State is becoming the home of the Maverick. Where are they all coming from? You guys can't even have a mini meet anymore - it would be a major meet
Welcome to the board. I lived in the Bremerton-Port Orchard area for many years. I used to work in Bellingham for a while. I also played softball for the Beaver Inn there. Lived in Ferndale for a while too. Nice area. Ray (courier11sec), a moderator on here, also lives in Bellingham.
Welcome to the forum :Handshake And your welcome---I say this because I was so close to buying that car but decided that it was just too far to drive to get it and the fact that it was a 4 lug car, glad you got it and cant wait to see some progress pics of it. I have plenty of it the way it sits right now
to the board. I was looking at that car myself. Just like Mike, it was a bit of a drive. Anyhow! Look on this forum under the MCCI, for our next Mini Meet this month....
Welcome from another Washington member. I'm in the Spokane area, working at Fairchild AFB. This is becoming a Maverick heavy state.
Welcome from a local here in town. Father son projects are always a good thing. I will probably be at the show in Blaine this weekend.
Thanks for the welcome guys! He mentioned someone from Oregon having an interest in it too, he also used that to his advantage when it came down to price.... I think I already have all the parts for the 5 lug conversion, I know I have a set of Granada spindles and brakes laying around, just don't remember if the rear axle I have is the right width or not. Given that this is the boys first car, and given that he has sponged too many of his old mans driving habits, I think I will do my best to make sure it turns and stops real well.. Looking forward to digging into it this weekend. Want to get it going down the road and shake it out a bit, see how it runs and if the tranny works as described. I am also looking forward to getting out to some meets with it! Now I gotta find a set of buckets for it! They swapped out for some prelude seats, said the old ones were worn and threw them out.
