well on my way to work this morning i had a lady wreak my car for me. i was waiting to turn left and the light turned red. the cars accross the street were slowing down so it was my turn to go. this lady in a honda pilot decided to run the red light. she hit the passanger front corner of my car doing at least 50. the worst part of this all is i got the citation because in the state of utah it is the drivers responsibility to make sure the intersection is clear before turning. my wife has the cammera so i'll have to get some pictures later. so i'm on the look out for another 4 door. this was my 1977.
The law is the same way here. If you are turning left you are responsible to make sure nobody is running the red light. Its like you have to be a mind reader and know they arent going to gun it at the last second. Just have to be patient, if stuck out in the intersection and wait until you know for sure the other cars are going to stop.
It could have been that he was also turning left on red. And in that case, I guess it is his responsibility to clear the intersection prior to crossing traffic.
It sucks but that is the rule most everywhere. You are not to turn across any other drivers straight line path regardless of their speed or of traffic lights. If you turn in front of them and they hit you then you are at fault. If there ware was a cop that witnessed the event they could site her for running the red light if she should have stopped but the person that turned left will be cited for fault of the accident.
yeah it sure sucks i just got done talking with my insurance and i'm going to be sending them some pictures. if they look bad to her she is going to send some one to my house to see if they can determin how fast she was going by how much damage there is to my car. all i can hope is that they say she was going faster then the speed limit to take some of the blame.
We're getting more left turn arrows at some of the larger intersections. If you are turning and have the green arrow, it's the other guys fault if he hits you! It's a shame that wasn't your case. Regardless, I'm glad you're Ok, but sad about your car!
Sorry to hear you lost your Maverick, I know what thats like first hand, glad you are ok though, you can get another Maverick.....I did!
Lesson here stay behind the white line until you see an opportunity to turn. Sorry about the car though.
Around here I always hesitate when entering an intersection when it first turns green, it seems nobody stops on a red any more.
whats a red light stand for again? no one stops for red lights around here even if there is a camera people still dont stop. theres one intersection here that people run that light all day and its photo enforced. the news said one day that they catch over 500 people every day running a red light and that just on that one intersection! theres a bunch of cameras up around here and the city is loving them at over $500 a pop theres a real money maker there.
