How do i tell which rear end i have? I want to purchase a limited slip diff. The car is a 72 mav i6. the bolts on the rear end face the front. I have been looking at pictures of everones car and there front end seems to be an inch or so over the front tire. The springs i bought are from auto krafters for the v8 and i have like 7-9 inches of clearance over the front tires. Putting the motor in did not even lower the car. 3 people on the hood still did not make her budge. Im thinking i got the wrong springs. Any suggestions on getting sprins or do i have the right ones? Thank you.
What? ... you don't want your Mav to look like a 60's Gasser? ... sounds like they sent you the really wrong springs... I can't imagine what would use a spring rate and length that high... truck springs? I don't mean this to sound insulting ... Are you sure you didn't leave a couple of jackstands under the car? ... I mean, 3 guys on the hood ... 500-600 lbs ought to compress racing springs 1 inch and street springs 2 inches. If your diff bolts "face front" like you stated, you should have an 8 inch, if it is original. 9s did not come stock in our cars. The way to tell an 8 from a 9 is if you can use a socket on the lowest two nuts on the pumpkin, it is an 8. 9s need an open end wrench on those because they are shrouded by the pinion.
