I think the bigger one is for the radio? What's the 2 pin fer? I've been digging into a charging problem and found these. Don't know what they're for.. My charging problem turned out to be a bad wire from the regulator to the alternator. I saw the new harness from AK wuz 10 bux. I'll be having one of those soon. Everyone should upgrade that for the price. Beats buying another voltage regulator... Sometimes things for our cars are outragously priced and sometimes it's a super cheap fix. Whatever.
The 2 prong one to the left center of the dash is for the radio. The black wire is a switched 12 volt positive, meant to power the radio. The blue wire with a red stripe is for the lights in the face of the radio. The other single wire you have hanging in that general area should also be blue with a red stripe and is just an auxiliary connection to the dash lights. I have no idea what it was originally meant for. Probably to power the lights on some kind of optional equipment.
Forgot pic... Thanks for your help Jamie! I forgot to include this picture I took when I first posted. My 2 prong doesn't have a black wire but that bigger connector does. That's what I thought was the radio?? Does my wire color scheme look the same as yours?
Intresting. I don't think any of my Mav's have anything like that. The clear box I "think" is a relay for something. Looking at the wireing, it definately turns something on when you turn on your dash lights. I would trace the wires and see where they go. If all else fails, unplug it and see what dosen't work anymore. That 2 pin connector is slightly diffrent then mine. Mine has one male and one female connector instead of 2 female. I would test the white wire with the black stripe with a test light and volt meter to determine how many volts and what it's function is. If the white/black wire is switched on and off with the ignition switch, pull the radio fuse out and see if the wire is still live or not. Maybe someone else knows for sure...
I'll be working on the Mav on Sunday night so I'll check where they go to and the voltage. I'll post what I find out later tommorow evening. Thanx again for sharing your brain.
Turns out the clear one is a buzzer for the key & doors. I still don't know what the other goes to (or if it's hot) cause I started checking fuses found out my fuse box is all rusty and needs to be replaced, or at least clean up the connections. No dash lights either... bad turn signal switch, heater core is going out... I'll be pulling the dash soon I guess. Might as well get a dash cap while i'm at it. What a mess. This car sat for years at my mom's place near Chicago and soaked up a lot of water before I brought it back home to Champaign and began throwing $$ at it. I've been pretty anxious to REALLY drive this car since my 302 was rebuilt and I thought I was about to get passed the 20 footer status but I've been foiled!! I can't wait till I'm buying subframe connecters and rear end parts!!
( Doing Andy Roonie impersonation) Have you ever wondered about the extra wiring under the dash that seem to go nowhere at all? I am finding wires that seem never to have been hooked up. Can anyone with more electrical sence tell me why this is?
