O.K. on the first question it really depends on the length of the run of wire and load it will carry. Here is a chart that might help you.http://www.rbeelectronics.com/wtable.htm Any major name brand voltage regulator will work like Borg/Warner or a Motorcraft unit. No protection is necessary in the engine compartment as long as the wires are run away from hot items. A "wire loom" is nice because it gives some protection and dresses things up a little. The rear panels are a mystery to me and I won't give you any advice on them because I would be wrong.
