Okay first off. The car went from cruiser to damn racecar. First and second any speed anymore than half throttle and the car is literally allover the road. The gearbox; brand new FMS t-5 "Z". -Silent operation (no gear noise or whine) -Literally select any gear at any speed with a satisfying "notch" into gear. -Gear ratios seem PERFECT 1-3rd so far all I have played with. -Short shifter stock (compared to the t-5 I tried to make work before) It was 1595 to my door after everything. A lot of money for a 24 year old on a budget, but no more worrying about which "junk" trans to try next.
I used the inside hole on the clutch fork, this seemed to have a much better angle on the slave. Is this okay? Also should mention, with stock 6 cyl springs, Lakewood slapper bars, and lift shackles + Detroit locker= a scary freaking drive. In third if you nail the throttle and let off quickly the clunk of the locker, slapping of the bars, rattle of the exhaust, and slop of the floppy springs is scary as hell tbh. Compared to a newer car I realize this thing is a death trap until I get the suspension and some safety gear.
I'm glad to hear you like that t5z.. It's the same one I'm looking at for the same reason... I'm going to use the hydraulic kit from modern driveline...
That's not bad. How do the external dimensions compare to a T5? Do they share the same bellhousing? Same length input? Same length overall? Driveshaft a direct fit? Are they much bulkier and does it fit in the tunnel well?
It is a t-5 in every way. It fit in my 70 with the small tunnel, with franks crossmember and stock driveshaft. Bellhousing is a 86 mustang t-5 and clutch flywheel clutch fork. I also used a 86 mustang pilot bearing. Everything went right in! Slave is tricky because I have nothing to compare it too so I am not sure how much preload is too much or not enough....any help on this?
Ahh, that's cool. So it's like a G-Force T5. Is the case beefed up like a g-force case or does it look like a regular t5 case? Regular T5 shifter too?
Leave it to a dealer to lie... The "Z" Spec T-5 In 1993 Ford started offering a new service unit to the Ford Motorsport crowd. The nick name T-5z comes from Ford’s part number, 7003Z. This Ford Motorsport T-5 is also sometimes referred to as "World Class T-5". While it is a Word Class T-5, as it has all the upgrades, having a 2.95 first and “Cobra pocket bearing does not make it “World Class”. The T-5z is a 1993 Cobra T-5 with 2.95 first gear set and .63 over drive. It has the best of everything. Hardened gears, short throw factory shifter, steel front bearing retainer, and tapered output shaft bearing and a seven tooth drive speedometer gear. Best of all it has a torque rating of 330ft/lbs. based on 100,000 mile usage. The stock T-5Z can handle up to 450hp with a soft locking clutch and is not shock loaded like in drag racing.
I have a stock style clutch that is very smoothe and does not grab hard. okay I think I mistook it for 450ft lbs not hp.
It is basically the cobra spec t-5 with some upgrades. It is still a t-5 in every way, except brand new, with a 2.95 gear cluster and .63 overdrive
putting the push rod through the inner hole will only increases the available travel. it decreases the leverage. the only problem i see is that the inner hole is not shaped for the round section on push rod. it may cause something to wear out. i would check it every oil change to see if it is eating itself up.
