I've been thinking about doing a fresh air intake system for my '72 347 Maverick. The under hood gets so hot you can't hold your hand on anything for long. Must be 130-140* under the hood. Thinking about replacing the standard grille with the Grabber version with lights, using the grille lights and markers for turn signals, removing the turn signals under the bumper and ducting air from one or both of those areas to the carb. Has anyone done something like that?
Mine is ducted backwards into the cowl....The airbox is sealed and has the high temp reflective foil underneath
That looks like a nice system. Think I've seen it before. Did you block off the hat(s) to prevent backfires into the cabin? I wouldn't want to give up external air for the heat & AC. BTW, that's a great looking engine bay!!!
If my hood wasnt already opened up I would relocate the batt to the trunk and duct the air intake to the rad support where the batt was. The cowl system would be an issue with a heater/ac in the car. The fumes from the breather would be fed into your heater box intake/cowl. Its a killer set up but I cant see using it with a heater box.
That would be lots easier and just as effective. Only down side is loss of the limited trunk space. I'll have to think about that.
My trunk is totally empty. Too afraid of something flying around and denting the quarters. HAd it happen to me on another car. I keep meaning to enclose the trunk area and finish it.
Nascar does it this way....My car has no heat or a/c and it would have to be a big backfire to get into the cabin where at that point that would be the least of my problems Some early Z-28's too...
I figured yours didnt have a heater. I couldnt see someone with your abilities plumbing that into the air intake for the heater box. I Love that set up you have to the cowl.
i put a scoop on the hood. directs air into the engine compartment when moving and lets heat out when stopped
I relocated the battery to the trunk and made a airbox the picks up fresh air from the slits designed for the battery. It bolts in and is completely reversable. It is also EFI but I see no reason that something similar couldn't be fabbed for a carb
Got any pictures of the fabbed air box? I was thinking about looking for something in a junk yard that might fit.
