Please forgive this amateurish question, but how many grease fittings should I be able to lube on a 6 cylinder maverick (1973) with power steering?? I bought myself a grease gun, got down under there and could only find four. One on each ball joint. This is in contrast to my Pontiac that has at least six or so fittings, PLUS more on the U joints. Am I crazy or is this observation true??

Welcome to the board. My Maverick only has only 4 grease fittings on the front end, and they were added by me when the factory sealed units went dry. The driveshaft may or may not have them as well. As time goes by, many things get changed. But, to help you with your question, Yes, that is probably all you have.

Welcome to the board. There is a little bit more than 4 grease fittings. You also have the upper arm fittings. You have to look where the upper arm is bolt to the body and see if there is fitting one on each side. When the maverick came out there was no fittings. Than people would end up putting the fitting on to save the upper arm from wearing out. Than you have grease fittings for the steering linkage. Than you have the drive shaft on the U-joints.

Total grease fittings 14. I hope this helps.

Upper control arms have 2 per side, and they are probably sealed with zerk bolts that will need to be removed so that you can install 90 degree fittings.
Try National Parts Depot-NPD.com and call them to see if they have them. In some cases people have cut holes in the bottom os the shock towers to grease these.
There is also a fitting on each side at the top of the spindle. It is located in
a little window on the end of the upper control arm.

Lower control arms-the bigger end close to the wheel has a fitting on each side. This is the bottom of the spindle.

There is probably one in each tie rod end. 1 per side.

There is another zerk screw that needs to be replaced with a grease fitting-if it has not been done-on cars with power steering. It is facing the ground on the p/s control valve. It is opposite of where the pittman arm from the steering box attaches to the control valve.

He's right, one on each end of the driveshaft, I don't remember more.

Depending on your car/parts, some of these fittings may not be present as
many manufacturers have moved towards sealed chassis-no grease
fittings and aftermarket replacement parts manufacturers have followed their lead.

I got a 70 Mav I know its a different year but every part that moves on the front end has a fitting. I personally don't have any on my driveshaft.
