When I purchased my 76 Comet the previous owner told me the sending unit in the tank was toast and the fuel gauge always read empty. I got a new sending unit from Melvin's and it installed just fine (original sending unit was toast, car was completely empty of gas). Put about 5 gallons of new gas in it but gauge still reads empty. Is there something else or another culprit I should be looking for that would cause this issue? Is 5 gallons on a completely empty tank not enough to really move the gauge?

Type in "fuel gage" gage in the search function. There is some good info on what else the problem might be.

Open circuit, the wire is cut or disconnected somewhere, or voltage regulator on instrument cluster is bad or faulty connection, or bad ground
