I was wondering what you guys did as far as the fuel pump/tank etc. I dont like extenal pumps generaly but wondered how you guys tackled the situation. I have everything from an 87Gt and Ive converted plenty of 4 pot stangs to V8s and even built a few harnesses over the years. The fuel pump seems to confuse me here. If it were a fox body stang Id just swap tanks fuel lines etc. But we all know ford never injected a maverick. Help me out here. I cant stand carburators, and my A/C compressor sounds like a jack hammer so I figure its time to convert. Thanks Steve in Waco
Why not get an old fuelie tank, and cut the important parts out, and weld them in. See, Holley carb folks. They have an intank pump.
Nothing wrong with using an external pump from an 85-87 pickup and mounted on a bracket just ahead of the stock tank. You still have to run a return line. The fuel pickup and mounting is in the lower left side of the tank. It takes some mods to get the lines hooked up. One problem you will run into is when the tank level goes below 1/4, the pickup will go uncovered of fuel on a power pull. I would advise putting a sump in the bottom of the tank.
I reacll using an audi fuel pump that was external but had a retrun system built into on my friends 78 king cobra. If I holler at him I will ask him what we ended up using. A local stanger gave us the idea.
