I'm just curious..I've heard a lot of talk about what the differances were between the Regular Maverick and the Grabber options, but have never heard anyone mention the blinking side lights with chromed plastic holders, My '71 Grabber has them..but never have seen them on any other Mavericks, Grabber or otherwise. Everyother car I've seen has lamps that do not blink and the holders are kinda like painted plastic. Of course I don't get to see a lot of other Mavericks up here in the Great White North but am wondering if I'm missing something or was this an option. Curious if anyone else has these...thanks
I am not quite sure what you mean by the lights. The side marker lights on all the Mavericks I have seen are painted plastic with chromed outer edges. These are just on when the parking lamps or headlights are on. Is is possible that someone wired yours to work like a blinker on the side? Let me know if I am way off your topic here. -Corbin
just on when the parking lamps or headlights are on My 70's side markers blink with the turn signals and so does my friend's '72 Grabber. I know no one has rewired either of our cars. I thought they all worked like that. Of course both of our cars were made in Canada.
I think we had this discussion once before and never did come to a conclusion as to why some blink and some dont. I have a 71, 72, & 77, all Canadian built, and none of them blink.
Thanks a bunch guys for the reponse...glad to hear there are other cars out there like mine. The plastic holders on my car are not painted with chromed edges though, they are completely chromed...both inside and out and are very reflective. I have yet to find these on any others...and I've looked at all Mavericks I have come across.
Actually the entire bezel is chromed and then argent paint is sprayed on all but the outer trim edges. So you can take some 0000 steel wool and carefully remove the paint to get the all chrome look. I forget what year it started but eventually Ford got cheap and stopped chromming them.
My 1971 CometGT had chromed side marker bezels . They were made out of some kind of magnesium/aluminum alloy that were chromed . I cant remember if they blinked or not . I dont know where CometGT's were manufactured either . Maybe this isnt relevant anyways as Comets arent Mav's
My 1970 Grabber I just picked up has the side markers that blink. It was made in Kansas City. It startled me at first because I forgot that some do that - my other one doesn't. -Corbin
Side lamps Im not sure why some marker lamps blink and most don't but, it could have been a regional requirment. Some states or countries require certain equipment durning a perticular year like the daytime headlamps on todays cars. I tend to belileve that if Ford could stay away from this type of thing they would. It causes mistakes durning production (whitch cars recieve it and whith cars don't) The chrome trim/or not, could have been a trim level option. No chrome on the base car depending on the model year. I think the first year for Ford side marker lamps was 1968 a safty feature so you could see the car at nite easier at intersections and if they blink you knew they would make a turn.
Hmmmmmmmm. Weird Maybe some Mavs were built in area 51. Just a thought. I've never noticed before. See, you learn something new everyday.
