Dont know anything about automatics other than their heavy and I hate them. I'd buy a cheap tach and hook it up. If the rpms speed up then something is probably slipping.

Does your car have a fan shroud? If you have a broken motor-mount, your fan could be scraping the shroud when you first get on it...

My very first thought was a broken motor mount. Probably the drivers side.

He has a 250 CI straight 6, there are very few V6's that will fit these cars because of their width.

You should not be haveing to floor the car to get up a hill. I'm running the 4.1 (250) straight 6, my car will climb most hills with the gas less then a quarter of the way down. In GA there are some mighty big hills depending on where you go. Sounds like you may have some transmission problems.

My original transmission made kind of a "grunt" sound when it messed up if you floored it.

As far as rubbing, I would get under the car and start looking around, see if the exaust is loose and rubs on the driveshaft or something. The motor mount is a very good guess also.

check the tranny mount too , along with the motor mounts an the exhaust, we had a ole dodge every time you got on the gas , the tailshaft of the tranny would hit the floor board
