Was one used on the V8 A/C models? Hole in shock tower is punched on mine, but has never been a fastener threaded into it...

    I don't think so, but I am not 100% sure. '73 V8 w/ AC.

Thanks Rusty! Apparently in '73 they routed the starter cable through that area, my late '72 routes cable along block at oil pan...

On my '71 6cyl non A/C parts car there is a goofy lookin' bracket mounted in that hole...

    Ahhh David thanks....

Are your refrigerant lines secured to the shock tower? Rusty's has the starter cable there... Also yours has shock towers like mine, Rusty's has the extra wraparound...

BTW before I posted I checked the '65-'72 Ford Master Parts catalog and it does list a bracket for 6cyl, but none for V8... I know Maverick/Comet info is sometimes omitted, wanted to be sure...

I was thinking about using it to support my A/C lines but decided there was no need.

Yeah that's the same as on my 6cyl parts car... I may cut mine down and use it till I get the A/C installed, without the hard lines there tends to be a lot of droop in the hoses...

    Comet,
I just got my AC lines made up and chrged with R12. Nice to have it working again.

I had to have custom lines made up to work with the 5.0. I dont have a droop issue with my hoses. My only concern is with the heat coming off the headers. I'm just about to go out in the garage and wrap them with some DEI heat shield material.

    Tom:
Neither my heater hoses or refridge lines where secured to the shock towers. The Heater
Hoses ran along the top of the intake beside the valve covers and the refridge lines just as
you see in the picture and then it was secured by the alternator by one of those rubber coated
"J" straps approx 1" wide. My refridge lines where pretty ridged, so no sagging. I can see with
inline that hoses would have to be secured to the shock towers.
Also, mine does have the same reinforced wrap around on my towers as Rusty's, just can not
see in the picture. Still sporting the original paint in engine bay, rest of my Comet is the same
too, I was really fortunate to find it!
    David

just noticed that where the heater hoses come out of the firewall on both Rusty's and mine
are backwards between our cars, so mine was probably changed at one time. Hoses on
Rusty's look more correct? Have to take a look at the shop manual.........

My AC lines also have the rubber coated J strap.

I'm not sure if my heater hose connections are correct or not, lol. These pictures were post highschool restoration. I tried to put everything back the way it came apart, but they could have gotten switched.
