Hi Ya'll! My name is Michele and I just got a 1974 2 door, Maverick for V-Day from my hubby "KillerComet" cute huh? Its blue (under all the rust) lol with Blue interior. The Interior has beautiful "paisley" print on it. Not to mention the gas tank currently is a gas can sitting next to the engine with a hose in it... LOL.
But the good news is. Its starts up and runs just fine. ( My hubby took it for a spin around our development). Anybody wouldnt know how to get that old car smell out would they? We already gutted it and cleaned it, but that didnt help a bit.

This is my first car project and im really excited that my husband and I have a project to do together.

In the End i want the car to be Hot Pink with Black Interior....

Does that sound Sexy or What?:yahoo:

    :Welcome:

Only way I know of to get the old smell out without totally reupholstering the interior, is go to Wal-Mart and get you a little pine tree air freshener. lol I personally have the Coconut one in my car. :biglaugh: But that's basically just going to mask the smell. May try some Febreze or something, too. No matter what you do, the smell is always going to come back. It smells old, because it is old..

    Its mouse pee hun...(y)

The seat foam needs to be taken out and cloroxed and disinfected. And new black seat covers need sewn on. I hope that works

The pics are in the General forum under new family member.

My guess is that it is also up in the headliner as well.

A lot of the smell comes with the old carpet. Replace it, and the car will smell a lot better.

Yeah, we already took out everything... except the head liner..... Im thinking about taking some bleech to it... I think that will def solve the problem.

I guess the Hot Pink and Black Interior isnt ranking high with ya'll... Glad i didnt ruffle any feathers with that comment. LOL ( Hubby doesnt think pink would be a wise choice)

Welcome to the board.:Welcome: Like Earl said, the carpet has a tendency to absorb a lot of oders, especially if the various oders are trapped in the jute, AKA the padding under the carpet. You can shampoo the carpet till you're blue in the face, but if the oders are trapped in the padding they will keep coming back. A new carpet and padding will help a lot. Mice are the all time worst offenders when it comes to foul oders, and they do love headliners. If they have gotten up in the headliner, you will never get rid of the stink without taking down the headliner and removing thier nest. Of coarse that means you will then have to replace the headliner, which is no easy or cheap task. For the time being you could try spraying the daylights out of everything with Fabreze and see if that helps. If the smells return then you'll have to track down the source of the oders and take stronger action.
