Hey guys, I got this Maverick given to me. From what I can find, it’s a 75-77 from the “Ford” across the hood and larger bumpers, but I can’t find anything to narrow it down beyond that. Zero history on the car. Grille is broken and gauge cluster is missing, but in pretty good shape otherwise. Inline 6 with an automatic, engine still turns over. I’ll be picking it up soon and will have better pictures then.

Welcome aboard!!!! Anything we don't know about Maverick/Comet ain't worth knowin'. ;)

First digit of VIN will be year. 6X92L1xxxx would be 1976, X = St Thomas build (K = Kansas City)
    L=250 6cyl, U would be 200.

Looks like she's been setting for years, has little Maverick sprouts coming up all around it. :yup:

It’s a 1977. The radiator is also missing, is there anything that swaps over?

Not to burst your bubble.....but that car is not worth pursuing a restoration of. I see enough visual damage to ascertain that the costs to fix are easily more than what the car is worth, even with the car GIVEN to you. That does not take in all the damage/work that I can't see. There is probably a reason it was parked.

OK with fresh radiator, headlight & rear frame rail welded so bumper stays on, you should be good to go. (uumm, maybe not);)

Mustang (B4 74) & Ford/Mercury intermediates from '66 to '80 all have similarities. Granadas are closest kin.

Could I use a radiator from any of the above cousins? I’m not as familiar with Granadas, but the radiator looks Mustang-ish.

The rear damage looks worse in the pictures than it actually is. The bumper is bolted on, but in the wrong way, and the mount is a little bent. The rear will take some massaging, but I also know of a rolled 2 door Maverick I could probably cut some metal from if needed. I’ll straighten it out as much as possible first, though.

    Don't know how well will buff-out ... .
    .
Maverick swaps non-shiny moving parts with most late 60's to late 70's Ford Mustang , Falcon , Comet, Fairlane , Ranchero , Torino , Fairmont, and lastly - first generation Granada (Granada later switched to Fox body platform).
    .
the 200 and 250 six are last of the iconic "Falcon Six" engines . Beginning as the 144cid in 1960 the evolved 200cid six was actually used lastly' in Mustangs thru 1982 , LTD's and even Thunderbirds ...
    .

"For its 1983 launch, the LTD retained two engines from the Granada: a 2.3-liter Lima inline-four and a 3.3-liter 'Falcon Six' inline-six." ... .
... a six-cylinder engine was made available for the first time in the Thunderbird's history in 1981, the aptly named, 200 cu in (3.3 L) Thriftpower Six first introduced by the manufacturer in 1963.
    .

    BTW if your starter is below the block/pan line it's a 250, starter above block/pan line -it's a 200.

    have fun

Rad would be similar to '67-'70 Mustangs. Fox body generally have cross flow radiators, with work probably useable.

Radiator size can vairy due to engine, A/C etc, here's a size chart. Height, thickness and width

BTW I think 200 uses smaller hoses than does 250. Powerband can probably verify.
