Earlier today I notice that my speedometer needle was hopping up & down as I was driving, but when I stopped the car the needle stopped also. What could cause this problem?

you may want to ...lube...the cable and check to see if it is tight in the trans. check the speedo gear on the end in the trans.

Alright I guess I got some searching to do in the morning, because I don't know where any of that stuff is actually located at, but thanks for the info.

The connector in the back of the instrument panel is where you can lube the cable. Just remove the cluster, and push on the clip where the cable comes into the speedometer. When you get it off, put some dry graphite down the cable. To get to the speedo gear, go to the tailshaft of the trans, and there is a bolt that holds a bracket that holds the cable into the trans. Remove the bolt, pull the cable out and see if the gear is damaged or sheared. If it is good, and the cable is lubed, and it still hops, then the speedo may be going out. Good luck!
