well ive been looking at engine specs online and all that and i was wondering, what would be the hp gain for switching to a 4 bbl carb? is it much? Small specs, '69 engine, originally 2 bbl, has edelbrock performer intake and holley 600 carb. But ya, does anyone know how much hp the gain is just to switching to a 4 bbl carb?
Not much if thats the only mod. Likely around 10-15 and that may be high. Get some headers and good exhaust, that will help. I wouldnt worry much about numbers. Does it feel better to drive? Then you did good.
Ya darren is right. Wont give ya much unless you do other stuff to it. I think it will just suck more gas from ya. I think the best mod for the money is a cam. And really I like my two bbl. Makes it more of a true sleeper.
Just a rough estiment, but here are some numbers. Cam around $270 Alum heads $1000 current heads machined $900 "I just had some heads done and that is what it cost me. Off of a 396 chevy" Intake $150 Carb $200 Headers $100-$200 Exhaust --- varies --- I would think around $100 to $200 again depending on what needs to be done. Now these are just prices I pulled really quick at a glance, but it does give you an idea. If you are looking for cheap horsepower, and the most you can get for you dollar, I would go cam, then headers and exhaust. Man how part prices keep going up. Shheeesss!
With the cam dont go to any old autozone... try to find a performance place and you will get the best bang for your buck... they know what they are talking about.
sorry guys but i was just wondering what the actual gain was in hp from a 4 bbl carb. I know what i need to build an engine but i was just wondering what the true difference in hp was with switching to a 4 bbl.
