Been doing alot of welding since I got my son's his maverick a few months ago. New floor boards and truck are in. Rear frame and bushing replaced. Most of the paint (three layers) I've got stripped down to the metal, except around the window trim (front and rear). For the life of me I can't figure out how it removes! Can someone please explain?
Vewry cairfulley (in the words of Elmer Fudd) I used a big flat head screw driver or a flat nail puller crowbar. There''s also one each phillips screws at the base of the side trim on the windsheild, start there and work the rest of the trim up carefully with the screw driver at the clips that hold the trim in place. The back window has four screws holding the bottom trim in place, accessable thru the trunk. Other than these screws, all that's holding the trim in place is the clips and the black tar goo sealer around the window. That'll also hold a suction on the window after you remove the trim. Got to be extra gentle to get the window free by prying up on it to avoid breaking the glass. Watch your fingers then as there's also glass shards around the edges.
You need a tool to release the little tabs on the windshield trim clips. I used a KD 2038, but any tool similar will work. You gotta lift the trim slightly, then slip the tool in to pop the trim off. here is a good thread with pictures: http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=72324&highlight=windshield+trim
