Some of you that were at Carlisle last weekend know that I didn't have my car there due to an engine problem. I had just put in a mostly new engine last week. I reused my 347 crank, rods and pistons from my old motor that developed a crack on one of the lower cylinder skirts. The parts only had about 3000 miles on them. Prelubed the engine, started right up, 50 psi oil pressure. While I adjusted the ignition timing it started making a loud clanging noise then froze up.

Tonight I jacked up the car to drain the oil and pull the pan off. While jacking I saw water running out the far side of the engine. When I looked around at the other side, there's a connecting rod is sticking out through the oil pan! :( And the water was coming out of the pan so I guess my "new" block is shot too. If I get the pan off tomorrow night I'll post a couple pictures.

Bummer! I assume it was the small end of the rod that gave way.

Could be, it looks like the big end with the cap still attached that is sticking through the pan. Maybe the crank broke, too.

The crank, rods, pistons are Coast High/Probe parts. The crank is (was) a Chinese cast piece. Think I'll go with forged parts next time!

Sorry to hear about that. Kind of get a sick feeling way down deep when you hear those loud raps because you know what is coming next.......Post some pics of the post-mortem. It will be interesting to see if you can determine what gave out first.
