    Help!
I picked up my Grabber not long ago. It had a 302 that I never heard run with some go fast goodies, rollers, intake, older MSD, Accel Super Coil, etc.
Anyway, it needed a fuel pump and it sounded pretty decent idling. The problem was it just laid 'flat' when you tried to accelerate. We hadn't messed with the timing (yet) as we didn't have a timing mark reference we could see. I did however notice it still had points that looked a bit suspect, so I figured I would start there. It also had an Accel distributor(34201 as I recall), so I opted to get a Pertronix II ignitor replacement made specifically for the Accel distributor (with no vacuum advance). While it was supposed to fit, I did have to trim a few thousands off the base of the Pertronix II backing plate to get the clearance for the magnetic pickup wheel but I am confident this had no effect on the operation of the Pertronix Module.
Now the car doesn't start at all. I've since removed the MSD box and run from the pertronix directly to the coil and still won't start. I don't think I'm even getting a spark. I've check the resistance of the coil (about 1 ohm from + to -.... about 12.5 Kohms from coil wire to +... about 12.5 Kohms from coil wire to -.

Any suggestions? Is there a simple way to check my Accel Super Coil "140001"? Do I need an external ballast resistor for the Pertronix or is my new Pertronix just junk?

Did you remove the distributor? Maybe you got it out of time?

    Dual point accel distributor?

Merc73gt... Thanks for the great links, learned a $hi#load! Will apply it and let you know how goes.

Joe Dirt.... 'No,' didn't touch timing. It is an older dual point set-up. Only had one set of points before. Did install pertronix in opposite side of distributor from old points set up. Thought about that as a potential for a minute yesterday, but then thought that the Pertronix magnetic pick-up is (in theory anyway) exactly 180* out of sinc of the other side. Would think it should be firing exactly same as other side... unless I don't understand dual point set-up. They are (were) in theory sharing the dispursement of the exact same energy at the exact same time (or were designed anyway). I would have thought it was duplication in case of one set of points fouling. I could be wrong there... so anyone with better idea.... please enlighten!

Thanks again to all. Big help.

I got a Pertronix when they first came out, and while the distributor, etc. looks stock, there was something about the wiring that really needed to be re-done. This was so long ago, that I can't recall any more detail than that.

I was removing a big old yellow Accel Coil that I ran with the stock dist. It might be a resistor issue ... I was running a (ack!) Mopar resistor leading to the Accel coil, on the suggestion of a good friend. I do remember that getting trashed in the swap.
