I want to run slide a links on my blown Mav- started looking into pricing... even from the big discount catalogs (Summit, etc) or ebay, they are up over 380+ and then the shipping... AND no one makes them specifically for a maverick- they take mustang links and rework them. BaH!

    BAH I say!! :bs:

So I sat down with my fabricator and between the two of us (he has an engineering degree and I, a physics) we are making our own. I buy a lot of aluminum and steel, A LOT- so my cost is low.

I'm offering perfect BOLT IN (ZERO WELDING) slide a links, specifically created for a stock configuration Maverick or Comet. Function in exactly the same manner as Cal-tracs (moving the center of gravity instead of just attending to wind up, like a slapper, etc) combined with the street manners of the slide a links- Totally top shelf materials used. These will come ready to go/bolt in. Again, NO welding! I fabricated and had laser cut my own bottom plate which mounts in the front spring eyelet, so the hassle of welding up tabs is eliminated. Typical install time is 3-5 hours depending on how handy you are. Straight forward instructions and diagrams included, of course.

I'll be running these on my own car- 450-550hp w/slicks, I guarantee they will not break, etc.

Cal-tracs/slide a links WORK FANTASTIC- ask any of the racers here. They blow those slapper bars out of the pond.

These will be a flat $300, including the shipping. I'm going to devote a portion of my shop time to this, so I will only be making around 6 sets at a go- so if you want a set, let me know specifically.

pics early in the week of them set up on my own car (which, by the way, Scooper was kind enough to post pics of in my other thread entitled:"Who want to pull wheelies at McD's ".... found below this one)

....also coming soon: complete, ready to bolt in, maverick/comet specific, triangulated strut tower braces- CHEAP.

    :chirp:

while cal tracs are pricey, they are specific for a maverick. good luck.:)

During your design, keep in mind that the 70 cars didn't have the staggered shocks. This requires a different shock mounting point on the lower spring plate.
Another nice idea would be to integrate a hook on the spring plate for tie-downs for those cars that get trailered.

The hotrodsandHemis link leads (or led, at any rate) to some really good plans for homemade cal-tracs plans.... Cal-tracs didn't take kindly to him posting them and let him know it, apparently. There was a gentleman selling them on Ebay as well... also gone now.
BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING, lol. :16suspect

The difference between his plans (which ARE good) and mine, is that by his own admission, his are lighter duty for the casual street rodder, etc- not specifically intended for the beating racing (track or otherwise) dishes out.

However- they ARE perfectly usable for casual use, etc. and are a fun project for the do it yourselfer.

My aim is not to competewith someone who can fabricate, weld and stamp out parts, etc etc. But I don't mind providing completed kits at less cost than retail to folks who don't want to be bothered. ;)

sure...if. ;) But if I were to go by the PMs I've gotten since I started this thread a short while ago- not everyone has the time or inclination to involve themselves in anything other than opening the box, reading the instructions and bolting them up. Which is fine- I myself feel thatway about a great many things... I buy crap at lowes all the damn time thatI could probably figure outand manufacture myself, but I'd rather not be bothered.

If someone wants to make their own slide a links, thats cool with me! (y)

But I've got these ready to bolt on kits here (or will in a few days, anywho) for those that don't want to make them or pay $100 bucks more togetthem from Mr. Calvert.

Oh yes- the Maxtrax. They operate on a very similar principle to the slide a link or the cal tracs- and they work as well as you would expect- but.... they're $400 bucks. :evilsmile

Caltracs are only $339 and are great. Also, they support the sportsman drag racing scene more than almost other company I know. They pay contigency in most of the races. They have great products, great service, and parts that work together well such as the split-mono leafs and caltracs.

If you want something good for the street, just use traction bars. If you need traction bars for racing and want to save time, just get the best=Caltracs. If you like to fabricate and save a little money at the same time, you can build some yourself, but I don't really like to see someone take someone elses great product/design and copy it and sell it for a little cheaper. It's cool that you are trying to help the Mav community though.

Comet-GT--> its all good man. :yup:

Erick-Mav--> I don't come on here looking for an argument with other Mav owners- seriously, I'm the most easygoing guy you're likely to meet- but I don't feel bad about hooking up a fellow Mav racer with a part that he was going to buy anyway for $400 (which is the price most folks buy them at, after checking the most common places)... *most* of my customers are street racers- not bracket racers- so the contingency money, while cool of them to provide, is irrelevant to *most* of my customers.

Let me ask you a question--> Holley pays LOADS in contingency money. They have a fuel injection setup called the ProJection.... its effective and prohibitively expensive. They sell it for thousands... I build/dial in/program/install an identical system for around $500 bucks... if you were in the market for adjustable fuel injection would you feel particularly badly after paying $500 Vs. $thousands for an identical setup?

I don't want this to get all blown up- if no one wants me to advertise my version of the slide a links, thats fine- I won't.

Now these would be cool for someone to make available. I'd buy a set or two, or three.
