It seems I can never get all the pannel lights to work. They are all good. I believe it is the connection between the wiring harness and the pannel. I have cleaned the contact surfaces and worked on the contacts. I was thinking I could get wired light sockets like the alternator light and wire every thing in to a more positive connector. Anyone every tried this? Any sources for the wired instrument light socket?

It sounds to me like you haven't found the real probelm yet...or cleaning all the contacts would have worked. I think fixing the real problem would be easier than trying to wire up something.

Does the intensity of the lights change, when you turn the headlight switch from side to side?

It sounds to me like you have a problem on the printed circuit board that the harness plugs into. All the illumination is on a common wire from the switch - so if some are not working then the conductor on the PC board is broken going to those lights.

The two that are not working this time are the oil pressure and the water temp. I checked the printed circut the last time I had the dash out and it was ok. I trurly believe it is between the connector and socket. No dimming of the lights that work. The time before it was the right turn signal and high beam indicator. The harness is just not long enought to plug in and get to the back at the same time. I really don't think it would be that hard to hard wire the instrument pannel with a short whip and change the conector. Make plugging and un-plugging the pannel easier. Yes I check the wire from the sending units back

Remove the package tray and radio then you can reach the harness plug from under the dash.
