A lovely day to all. Name's Curtis. My buddy and I are avid car crafters for many years and we're both very technically oriented, but know very little about our new $300 investment. Its a 74 Mav 302 that we plan on gutting for a racer of some sort. I want road race, he wants drag Anyway, we'll be picking your brains on some of the technical aspects of the car; weak points, strong points, tried-and-true methods. And along the way hopefully we can bring some general engineering knowledge in return.
OK, you asked for pics Its a bit rough but rock solid. All but two of the panels are very straight. The hood and driver's fender is a bit touched. 302 runs strong, but electrical gremlins abound and we're opting for a roller block anyway. The C4 was rebuilt just a few thousand miles ago, but its getting the heave-ho too. The interior is acceptable, but it will all get ripped out and two race buckets will go in it place. Otherwise, fenders flared, caged, forced induction EFI 5.0, a 9" center on our 8" tubes, some granada front discs and Explorer rear discs, and we're ready to punish the street. We'll probably go really sticky street rubber with a completely modified suspension for AutoX and keep a set of fat-n-skinnies around for an occasional attempt at the strip. Oh, and those ugly bumpers gotta go The plan is to sell what we can to buy what we need and keep it as cheap as possible. Drive it to the track, change the tires, adjust the shocks, kick ass, and drive home.
Are you making fun of the previous owner's Kmart specials? He paid $9.99 for those. Maybe I'll use them as parts trays
Wow all that for $300. How did you score that? You can probably get that and more for the parts you want to sell. Welcome to the board. Roz
Its a buddy's car. He bought it for $500 a few years ago and then lost interest after the problems got too time consuming. He told me he was going to put it in the paper for $500, but $300 is the "friend" price. I dove right in. I'll keep you informed of any parts that will be for sale. We might do a complete front fiberglass kit and trunk lid, so all of those panels will be up for grabs. The complete interior including the dash, radio, heater core, A/C parts, headboard, and seats will be for sale some day. It might be a while, though. I have an 84 TransAm, a 66 Bonneville, and a 65 Scout 800 that all get priority first.
