    C4 Horsepower

Don't think there was ever a recommended rating from Ford. The engineers probably figured that all out at the factory. Just from my own use, stock C4 would probably handle 200 plus HP easy. When we built our first race Mav with 302, we put on a trans cooler and manual valve body after good stock rebuild. Engine was pushing 300+ HP and never had any trouble. Bumped up the HP to around 380 and still used the same trans. With about 250.00 and some attn. to detail, the little bugger should be just fine up to 400+. All depends on how its treated, I still run a almost stock one in my Fairmont race car, tore it down after about 250 passes and found one foward clutch disc slightly worn. Otherwise it looked like new. Good fluid and maintenance is a plus. Unless you are looking at 500 Hp and some hard driving techniques, the basic C4 will do just fine.
