I give up. Heres the story My 75 mav 4door is leaking on the driver side. During the summer I resleaed seams under the dash and replaced the gasket for the windshield wiper arm and had a new windshield and gasket replaced. I thought that would take care of the problem wrong. It still leaks and I have to pull my new carpet out because it got soaked this is the second time on pulling it out. It gets real old! From what I kind figure is water is comming down in the vent. No the cowling is not rusted or leaks. I think from the top hole where the wiper arm comes out. I do not have the rubber groment I can'nt find one. Would this cause a leaking problem if you don'nt have one. I have been thinking of removing the fender and seeing if there is a seam or something that needs fixed? Is there anything under the fender that would cause this. I have been fight with leaks for a long time on this car. I'm lost on this any and all help I sure can use.
that could be the cause.. however, check the bottom front of the door area. the "rain gutters" on the tops of the doors direct the water flow into the area where the hinges are. If say, you door doesn't sit quite so perfect, as mine doesn't, then It will leak from the front bottom of the door, and get your carpet all wet.. I'm just too busy with other stuff, so I have floor mats covering the carpet on that side..
That gromment around the wiper arm has nothing to do with the problem. Any water that comes through there is just directed into the cowl area. Some of the main possibilities are cowl rusted out, windshied seal, or in my case, the bottoms of the windshield posts were rusted out. Another possibility is up under the dash, where the wiper arms go through the firewall.
Thanks for the advise. To answer some of them more clearly. I have check that it was the wiper arm gaskets and there is no rust on the cowling the windsheild gasket as been replaced and resealed that rules all that out. The reason why I mention the groment is I put water over the wiper arm and for some reason it gets directed into the vent but if put water into the cowling area no leaks weird. I need to double check the door seal again had that fixed once it could be off again. I just got done pulling the carpet out and I'll be doing a water check again there goes my water bill. Anybody else have any ideas?
