I just found out that my 75 4 door has the no power 200CI. I would like to change it to the 250 CI. Does anyone have a good 250? If you please contact me. Thank y'all Texasjack 817 560 1155 pajack@sbcglobal.net
just come to Ky and ill give you one..oh, and this would get more attention in the 'parts wanted' section
I've had both a 200 and 250 in my '72. I can't really tell the difference. The 250 may have been a tad bit quicker off the line, but that's about it. If you're looking for a decent increase in power, do like newtoford says and just go 302. Otherwise, if the 200 runs fine, I'd just leave it alone.
Looking for a 250 Thank y'all for the help. In order to start this 200 I need to buy a starter. The reason I did not consider a 302, which I prefer is the 250 would be more like a MAC computer: plug and play. I am almost 70 years old and after my back surgery I am limited to the amount of work I am able to do. My brother owns a garage in Maysville, Ky. How far is Irvine from Maysville? Thank you Texasjack
The 250 will not be as plug and play as you may think. The exhaust down pipe coming off the manifold may need to be extended due to the extra height of the 250. Assuming the car is automatic, you will need to change the bell housing and torque converter. You will need the correct linkage for the column shifter if the car is column shift. Your upper radiator hose definitely will not fit, the lower one is questionable depending on your radiator. None of this poses a problem obviously if you have a donor car. But it is still a considerable amount of work for a very marginal performance increase. I'd get a starter and see how the 200 runs. If it turns out to be junk, most auto parts store should take the starter back for a refund. Just be careful not to beat it up while installing it.
take route 11 about 60 miles south to Clay City, then route 82 that runs into 89, then you're here. prolly around 70 miles or so total
ya, if you think your 200 is weak and slow your going to be awefully disapointed once you get a 250 in there what you could do though which would probably be easier is just buy a few performance parts for the 200.
200 in My 1975 4 Door Thank y'all for the help! Today I replaced the starter and battery and got it running and it runs good. No smoke or strange noises. I am going to live with the 200. I am used to my 07 Hyundais, the Sonata has 234 H.P and the 4 cylinder Elantra has 138 H.P. So the Mavrick feels gutless. I changed the oil and filter, bought an new set of 205-75-14 tires and mounted and balanced those. When I had all four wheels off the ground I pulled the drums and found the shoes to be good, so I replaced the master cylinder ($18). The tranny has a problem, it was very low on fluid and when I filled it I discovered that it will pull the car and shift but it slips when taking off from a dead stop. I need to find another C-4 four for it. The front ujoint is shot so next week I will replace both ujoints. After the mechanicals are squared away it will go into my friends trim shop for new carpet and seat rebuilds. I am trying to decide whether to paint it the factory color, pea green or go with Ford screamin yellow. There is NO rust on the car. One thing missing is the lower dash piece that runs completely from side to side. Later I will get some picts and post them This is the FRIENDLIEST forum I have ever been on!!! Y'all are great. try this site www.classicinlines.com swapping the rear gear ratio to something deeper would be your best bet. atleast before you get intoactual engine modifications. i'd deal with the trans first and foremost though i know alot of people dont really like that 1970's looking pea green but i actually do. i'd like to see a maverick painted the pea green that you can get on the new mustangs
