So i have a few problems that i cannot figure out myself and the jerks at the auto store always beat around the bush. My blinker lights will go in and out and the dash lights on the speedometer dont work...i have changed the bulbs but still nothing. Help me plz
Have any changes been made to the car recently? Added a new radio or other accessories? Are any fuses blowing?
Check the fuse. This is a newer car with the fuse box mounted in the lower dash, so it may not be as likely, but I had a problem with my gauge lights because of corrosion on the fuse contacts. I cleaned them off and had no problem after that. Is the problem with the blinkers the lights in the dash or are the blinkers on the car not blinking at all?
The dash lights on the speedometer sounds like a printed circuit issue, someone here has the resources to make them, he was asking about it last week(I cant remember his name at the moment) The blinkers going in and out sounds like a connection problem at the turn signal relay or at the turn signal switch, could even be a broken wire somewhere or the relay might be going bad. when you use the turn signals, do you hear the relay when the turn signals doesnt work? when one doesnt work does the other work? Theres a lot of details thats being left out to give you an accurate suggestion.
I dont here the clicking sound wen i turn on the blinkers only wen the lights work do i here them. The fuses look good so i dont think its them but i will take a picture and post it here
so the problem with your signals is before the relay(unless the relay is going bad), if they blink very slowly then its time to get a new relay as its a sign its starting to go bad, its only a few bucks and cant hurt anything more then help...if the relay doesnt fix it then you're probably going to have to go into your column to fix it. As for the speedo light if you already have the dash torn apart check for cracks in the printed circuit for the bulb/s...you also may have a bad bulb housing, replacements for those should be cheap also, and should be universal with most if not all older fords(maybe someone can verify this for me?), how many bulbs are not working? I think the speedo has 2 if Im not mistaken
all the lights on the left side of the dash panel work my high beam indicator light works so really the only ones that dont are the two speedo lights
Sounds like theres a break in the circuit between where the positive feed for the lights meet and the place where that line meets with the other illumination circuits, if you know what Im talking about(took me a few minutes to word it right...lol), to figure out the positive feed from the negative traced all the feeds, there will be a strand of copper that runs to every electrical thing on that panel, that will be your negative. If you have a voltmeter or test light you can test the circuit to see if its even getting power(if it is then you have a bad bulb housing), and should be able to trace it back to see where the circuit breaks...the problem is in the circuit panel you just need to figure out where its at I drew up the circuit and labeled where each strand goes in the harness...I can find it if you think that would help.
