The FMX has the same 1 to 1 ratio as the C4 in high gear

With 2.79 rear gears you should be running near 2700 rpm in high gear.
Are you sure you have the right ratio?
what rpm are you running at 60 mph?
what size tires are you using?

With a 26" rear tire and 2.79's you should be turning about 2525 rpms in high gear @ 70 mph. Going to 3.50's will increase the rpms at 70 to 3168.
