Flew up to New York and visited Mom and Dad for the holiday. My parents were down in Georgia visiting the day my Maverick came back from the paint shop. While I was up there my mom gave me a copy of this picture she took ... thought it was pretty cool ... that is my son ... Colton Maverick. All my relatives are up North so I guess I am know officially a redneck!
That's pretty cool. My favorite things used to be my family and Hang Gliding (currently ranked 22 in US), but I think now my favorite things are family and Mavericks. Working on the cars gives me more time to be with the family. Although I'm not sure working in the garage with all the power tools is any safer than hang gliding. By the way, one of my cars will be going to the paint shop soon. When you sent your car to the paint shop did you also remove all the windows and the door latches? If so how did you keep the inside from rain when the shop had it sitting around outside and how did you keep the doors shut? -Erick
Except for the drive train, dash and steering wheel my car was completely gutted prior to sending it to the paint shop - basically a rolling chassis with an engine. The shop was only a mile down the road so driving it with no glass wasn't that big of a deal. I had each fender hanging on with two bolts. My car stayed indoors at the body shop for the entire 6 weeks it was there so the weather was not an issue. Since there was no glass you could just reach inside to open the door but since they didn't hang the doors until towards the end of the project it wasn't that big of a deal anyway.
Neat pic DM. Did you get my post about the bumper swap question that you had? I posted some pics. Seth
yep! I luv having me kids help me on my car.....as long as everything is going good Thanks for sharing.
Yep, that's the way to do it, by taking all that stuff off you get alot better quality job then you would with it all on the car.
Here it is..... http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=11733 I think that you were headed out of town for Thanksgiving. Seth
If your riding down the road with no windshield in your car and fenders hangin by one bolt, You might be a REDNECK
Funny thing about finishing a car. Its a double edged sword. On one hand you get tired of working on it, so your totally relieved to finish it. But very soon as you look back and look through the pictures, it seems like it really wasent so bad, and you keep comming up with more changes you can do so you can actually still work on it.
Aint that the truth. When I think back on what a pile of junk our Stallion used to be, it was all worth while.
here is acouple of my favorites.... 1) of my youngest son helping me clean out the 73' 2) of my youngest after wiping down the maverick for about 30 minutes at our mini-meet in Somerset. 3) of my oldest int the parking lot at Mancino's during the 2004 Nationals. The children are the future.......
With my wifes condition haveing kids is probably out of the question, but I love to see a father son type pic. It really meant alot to me when my dad and I built my car, memories that could never be forgotten, even when things got bad between dad and I it was all about the car. I guess thats what you get when you have a old school type guy building a car with a punk kid .... But I thought I would share a pic of one of my kids with my car
That shot of your Mav when it came back is cool. The big kid is really tall , but who is the little kid with him? LOL
