I wanna put modern windshield wipers on. I have multiple original arms where the spring doesn't hold the wiper against the windshield. Trying to find more modern arms. I'd also like my choice of blades at the parts store... Is this possible without a major project?
I'm using wiper arms from an 89 Escort. Standard pin type mount, lots of blade choices but I like the current Motorcraft ones. When they stop cleaning, wipe the blade with an alcohol wipe and good as new.
Sweet! Thanks! I bet they have those at advanced auto. Keep'm coming! Couldn't find much about this at all on the forum...
I've always just put them on. Most of the good brands come with an adapter to slip on the end. I'm running these fancy things and all I did was pop them on.
That's interesting. Might have to try carquest... Advanced auto ended up only having one type of arm, and they said there's no way it would work. Do you know where you got the "pop them on" guys?
I just buy whatever wiper I want and use it. Seriously I think you guys are over thinking this. You just strip off the original plastic bit at the end, get to a bare metal arm; and slide on the new attacher piece. Put on a little adhesive if you want (I never have, and done this to 2 Comets).
That.. and like tires.. not all wiper arms are created equal despite similar appearance. Personally.. I always use the high end Bosch stuff. Always works well and lasts longer to help offset the higher price. And nothing to glue either. lol
Yea that is true I was just thinking make sure theres nothing on the end that shouldn't be there. Maybe someone already put some adapters on and he just doesn't know it. Just wasn't thinking about it that deeply.
The only arms they had in advanced auto had a hole going through the spot where it mounts to the car. Looked like it got a screw through it or something. It was plastic
The Rain-X ones come with an adapter that works amazingly. You just have to get the one for "bayonet arms".
I have modified Ranger wiper arms on all of my old cars. I like the attachment better, besides none of my cars are show quality anyway. I drill out the rivet, pull the arm apart, cut to length, drill, bend and reassemble. Its pretty straight forward, and gains the ability to hold the wipers off the windshield while you wash it.
Looks like I won't be able to get anything that works locally... Anyone have a part number on a modern style compatible arm? I'll order them online.
