    running engine out of car

Hey Kris, Top off the engine with oil, I would probally change the oil. If the fan belts are on the engine...either remove them along with the fan and pulleys or leave them on and remove the fan,but secure the pulley with shorter bolts.....plug the heater hoses....remove the t-stat....install an extra long lower radiator hose( maybe one for a motor home or a Chevy pickup, yes a Chevy),fill it with anti-freeze then connect to t-stat housing....connect to a fuel supply and the proper battery source.....start and run the engine. I would have a fire extinguisher nearby for safety measure. You can periodically touch the radiator hose, when feels warm consider the motor has run long enough.....Good Luck(y)

First of all, you can run it long enough without going through all the cooling hassles to sell it. Just about 15-30 seconds should be long enough to show someone it runs. Electrically, you need a battery. Put a ground cable on the battery and bolt it to the block. Run a positive wire from the battery to the + side of the coil. Take a jumper cable and hook it to the + side of the battery. Take the other end and touch the starter terminal to start. Once it starts, remove the the jumper cable. Dont do the jumper cable the opposite way because it will spark when you touch the starter. If you spark it on the batter, you can blow up the battery. Gasses comming from batteries are highly explosive.

Make sure the engine is secure because it will try to torque roll.

I almost always fire my motors up on a purpose built stand. It takes about 2 hrs to set one up. However I can run mine as long as I want. Great to break in fresh motors. Good for catching potential leaks or other problems.

This may be a given, but it will have to be bolted to a transmision or at the least a bellhousing to have a place for the starter to bolt up, otherwise , like they ^ said.......

The tranny isnt a problem because I am gonna pull the whole unit at once, but since it wont have an ignition or anything, what would i use to actually start it? I have never done this before..

If someone could give me a complete write up on this STEP by detailed STEP I would be very very appreciative..

Is the distributor and coil still going to be attached to the motor after you pull it?
