Don't know if you saw the thread on dim dash lights but w5w bulbs are touted to work better for your application. I bought a pack but am not up to going through the knuckle busting of pulling my cluster yet.

While all the bulbs in the cluster are the same, you only need to replace the three for the back light. I circled in the pic below what bulbs you need to replace. Sorry it's a fuzzy picture, took it with my cell phone.

Would those fit into a 1974 Mav dash without the need of some electrical work?

The problem with LED's is either they are ON or OFF ... they will not DIM like standard bulbs ... and when they are on they are bright. Also if you go with LED's they must be installed with proper polarity or they won't work. So after installing them plug in harness .. if they are off flip them 180 degrees and try again.

LEDs when running on AC have the correct polarity exactly half the time. LEDs can be dimmed because they are voltage sensitive. They are just about the perfect lighting solution.
