I went with some friends to go look at a hunting ranch that we want to go to this year..and i started to look at the guys cars, he had a 69 camaro,69 chevelle,69 mustang.. and he has two 5.0 engines just sitting there on stands. He said i could have one of them for $500. It needs some work.. but i know i can get that thing working..my problem is i dont know what year it is. He has alot of edelborck and march pullys and brackets on it.. i think they just need some cleaning .My Q is how do i tell what year the engine is..I found out he has the same problem that i have.. one of the alt bracket bolts where to small so they added a thing called a " heli coil" and i have now idea on where to get one..

That is probably a late model engine. That is not a helicoil in there ... It is a threaded plug in the air pump hole. Late model heads have the hole for the air pump on both ends. The factory or the rebuilder inserts this plug into one end to make it threaded for accessories. The other one stays open for the air pump.

The threaded inserts are available over the counter from your local Ford dealer.
