*Update* OK, so I've found out that the engine/trans are from a 1979 F150... 302, with GT40P Headers... Does anyone know if I could drop this STRAIGHT into my maverick without any major modding... Keep in mind, my mav has Already had all necessary modding put put a V8 in it... I was just wondering if this would be any different since it's from a truck... ANY comments, questions and advice is MOST Welcomed, Thanks. I'm pretty sure my Maverick has an 8 inch read end, but I MIGHT be able to get ahold of a 9 inch read end from a 79(I believe from a falcon or Fairline) How much modding would I need to do to make this work? The Engine and Trans I might get is a rebuilt 302 with 13k miles or so on it. I know that my front end has already been modified enough to drop just about ANY v8 into it, but I'm working on a Budget here and was wondering if the 9 inch rear end would be worth it. This Engine/trans would be cheap to buy than to fully rebuild the original straight 6 and auto trans that's in it... and I am getting to the point where I NEED to either get a new one or rebuild the old... ANY questions, comments or concerns would be much welcomed... Let me know what ya think.
In 79 they only had Falcons and Fairlanes in australia..... Heres the 9" dimensions http://www.mustangsandmore.com/ubb/FordRearDimensions.html
LOL Touche! It was my best guess, I haven't actually SEEN the rear end yet, lol... Waiting on the response back for more info on it. Thanks for the heads up =) So, Do you think it can fit easily into my 70 maverick, or if not how much modding will need to be done, etc etc?
If its a Pre 70 falcon then it might just drop in. A lot of those guys use maverick rear ends as swaps. And the 9" will probably be a 5 lug so that's a good thing. Also its cheaper to get a locker/posi for the 9" I don't think falcons ever came with 9"s though, but i wouldn't doubt that someone could have swapped one in. Fairlanes did but they're a wider than a maverick rear end. Also i think they're coil spring cars.
If you have a stock rear end it is probably a 7 1/2 ". If you do have an 8" stick with it unless you want to build a drag car. 8" is good to 350+HP. even if you have a 7 1/2" , 8" rears are avilable as a bolt in from other later Maverick.
