Hey guys, I'm thinking of grabbing a '70 Mav up here in BC (Canada) But I'm not sure if the price is right, after looking around here... Maybe someone could answer the dreaded question of "Is it worth it" for me? http://vancouver.craigslist.org/car/461427397.html
thats a nice looking car, may be a little high but if its really that nice it might be worth it. i'd still try to talk him down but its not often you see original cars that nice looking. espically so far north
It ain't that far North Almost the same thing I was thinking, Mavs seem to usually be sold in horrid condition (no offense to anyone?) I was planning to try and talk him down at least 500 bucks... thanks for the input...
is that u.s. or canadian currency? nice looking car. you need to see it in person to make sure it really is that nice. pictures hide a lot.
Welcome aboard! Looks like a pretty nice car. Some people have different ideas on what "mint condition" is. I'd check it top and bottom to make sure there is no serious rust problems. Poor some water through the cowl vents at the base of the windshield too and see if any water leaks into the floors. Mavericks are notorious for that. If the car is rust free...I'd say it's worth it.
... ...Check it out and let us know what it looks like. Hey Don, you might want to post something else tonight J/K...
Thanks for the tips... and @ don... Canadian, so like 1 million USD hehe I love saying that (just because I used to hear it all the time in the opposite way) Ah, Also had another question... How reliable are mavs? I mean... be honest with me here, parts hard to find? etc. (seems ok if I'm connected to this odd site called Maverick.to) and one more thing >< any good good questions I should be asking the guy?
ive had ALOT of luck with the mechanical reliability, spically the 6cyl. and mechanical parts really are as cheap as they come and most auto parts stores will have pretty much anything you need in stock or be able to order it really quickly. the biggest issue is you want to make sure thats just not a pretty paint job sprayed over bondo that was smeard over rust holes. im only sayin its a 4 grand car if it truly is as solid as it looks. im in Delaware (about 200 miles south of newyork city for those not famiular with the area lol) abd even here its hard to find a car half the age of a maverick thats not rusting out so to see such a pretty and original car so far north is exciting for me lol but body condition is the #1 thing too look for. not scratched paint or little dents, i mean ROTTING OUT conditions. if you touch it and it crumbles, very bad check floors, bottom of the front and rear fenders, door bottoms and vinal top cars are notorious for rusting out real bad above the windshield. if its honestly as good as it looks, get it!
That car shouldn't be too bad, I bought a BC car and it was pretty good, the weather isn't as bad as you might think for being up North, of California. Have a good look at it, take your time, parts are easy to find, and there simple to work on. If it's a solid car,go for it, that price is good.
Welcome from Pittsburgh Pa!. Looks like a nice Ride! Never hurts to make your offer! Good start on looking for info hear. Pour water down the cowl by wiper arms an see if you get any water inside floor boards. Good Luck!
