I am new to the Maverick world, actually being thrown into it. I recieved a phone call from my brother asking if I wanted to go in halves with him on purchasing a 1972 Maverick Grabber for our dad. My dad owned a 1971 when he was younger and he was quit attached to it. My brother found this Grabber and thought it would be nice to restore it for him. I actually thought it was a great idea because my dad is not really into cars, but for some reason he loved that Maverick. The questions I have are as follows:
    Are parts readilly available?
    Are body parts available?
    What is this car worth?
Should I look for some other car to start with?
What would the car be worth after it was restored?

I have attached a few photos of the car. I would rather find out that this car is not worth it before jumping in with both feet. I have a pretty good fabrication back ground and have put a few award winning show cars together. I have worked as a mechanic at a couple of dealerships and am currently a maintenace supervisor for an airlines. This is a little quick backg ground on my skills and experience. I have no doubt about getting a car up and running and looking good. I just don't want to spend a fortune on a car that will be worth very little in the end or pay to much for what I am getting. I have not done much back ground work on this type of car and am looking for the fast track info on it.

Thanks for your help and comments.

Are parts readily available. Not really, but they are out there. ebay or advertise on here for parts. some go out and find a parts car. There value is going up. might want to look at some on ebay as to their value. After restoration they can be anywhere from $4K up to $12K or higher depending on the restoration. Can't see the pics so it's hard to give you a present value. Welcome to the board.:Welcome:

You have an extra http:// in front of you links .... I was able to open them ... I like the color ... but you really haven't supplied enough pictures to judge the condition or value.

... and how come it says NOT FOR SALE on the windshield? :)

As far as value, They will seldom be worth much more than what you put into them, but most people here dont really care about that. Its the passion thats makes them valuable to us.

I'd buy it ... I think it's in great shape ... I see no rust except for the front fender ... no biggie .. and that rear 1/4 panel could be pulled and hammered straight ....

If I was selling it .... I would take no less than $6,000 for it .... You don't have pics of the interior but it appears to be a bench.

    That's a pretty rare color also ...

All original paint and stripes with no one ever doing any body work makes it all the more valuable because you know exactly what you are getting ...

I guess what I am asking is what is the car worth in this condition. I don't want to pay more than what its worth in its current condition. I know what you mean about putting money into something and not getting it back. All the vehicles I have built have never been worth what I have put into them.

It is a bench. and the interior is o.k. It does have a crack in the dash and the drivers headrest is cracked. There is also a tear in the back of the front seat. The door panels look good except there are some wrinkles around the arm rest. I could not get a better look at the interior because the car was not open. My brother has been talking to the owner for some time now and it looks like he is going to let it go to him.

Don't sweat the Dash and Upholstery ... that's the easy stuff to fix (except for the door panels ... you need to salvage them) ... you just want to make sure there is minimal rust and all the Grabber parts are there .... which they are on this car.

The right front bezel around the light in the grille is cracked.

It also has 56,000 miles on it.

How hard is it to get fender and the lower valance?

Expect to pay approx $300 for a straight rust free fender and front valance ...

Again ... I would not hestitate to buy this car ... You will likely not find one in nicer shape ... just make sure you check the floors and trunk ..... you can also dump water down the vents on the cowl to check for leaks ... but if the carpet and floors looks solid they are probably OK. PUll up the carpets on the driver and passenger floors to check.

From the pictures I would buy that car, all the common rust spots look ok from what we can see, the only other being the cowl. Looks like a nice solid car. Around here I would pay 3000-5000 easy. Nice car buy it!! you don't find many like that anymore.

Basically yes .... if you buy a later year fender you will have to notch it to fit the small bumper setup ... no big deal.
