Finally got the 250 running pretty good except the idle is screwy. Go to check oil and it is milk. Not Good!! It had about 2 gallons in the engine and only about 1 quart of antifreeze in the radiator. I just got done replacing the head gasket and cleaning up that whole engine. I am assuming a cracked block or broken water jacket internally...gonna cry.
What was the reason you replaced the head gasket? If it was because the engine had overheated,I would take the head and have it magnafluxed. The blocks rarely crack. With the head off, change the oil and filter and crank the engine with the starter until clean oil pumps from the port that feeds the rocker shaft in the head. Leaving the old goo in your engine will destroy the bearings in a pretty short amount of time. Also some of the head bolts go into the water jacket,so you should really put a little non hardening gasket sealer on them when you install the head. Good Luck with it! Iv'e been there with a cracked head!
I originally did the head gasket because it was seeping from the head about halfway to the back of the engine. I figured out the girl that owned the car ran it with straight water and it was contaminated when I got it. I was hoping it was just the head gasket and should have sent the head out when it was apart. Thank you.....lesson learned.
Probably a warped head destroyed the head gasket to make the external leak. Then the head was removed and it finished the warping with no load. Torquing it down with a new gasket caused a new leak.
The head is toast!! I am having a new head delivered in 2 weeks. I want to go with no emissions. Can someone tell me what I can get rid of and how to set it up. Don't mean to sound dumb but I haven't really messed with Fords too much, especially the older setups. By the way it does have the canister, egr, vacuum into the manifold, dual vacuum from dist. and dual lines from the transmission. Thanks a lot, Tim
