How much play should the pitman arm have?

I know it’s a non-wearing point... but how do I know when it should be replaced or when there is to much play?

I also know this item is discontinued, so is it really practical to change from power steering to manual steering? or is that just a bogus effort?

Is it true that Ford's power steering is really finicky? (1976)

The pitman arm is just a hunk of metal with holes at each end. There's nothing to wear out. The ball link that attaches to the arm is a different story. For a power steering set up, the ball link is mounted in the control valve. You can buy rebuild kits for these but I would recommend buying a remanufactured unit instead. They are available at any mustang supply house and even in some auto parts stores.
