    Hey guys,
I'm currently rebuilding a 302 out of a '92 F-150. I'm going to put it into my maverick, which currently has a 200 in it. Now, I didn't get a flexplate with the 302, so will I need to buy one for that engine, or should the one I have on my 200 work? Thanks guys!

Not only do you need the correct 50oz imbalance flexplate ... you need a new transmissino as well .... nothing from your 200 6-banger will work ...

I'm sure a C4 expert will chime in .... the bellhousings are obviously different between a 200 and 302 .... 250/302 are the same. As far as I know ... the internals on a 200 C4 were not built as beefy as a 250/302 C4 .....

You can swap the bell housing, get a new torqe converter and flex plate and the current transmission will work. But if you drive it hard, who knows how long it will last? The internals were not built to handle the power of a 302.

The (200) trannies have one less set of clutches don't they?

be sure to get a 157 tooth flexplate with a 50oz balance. Alot of times parts stores wont have them. try jegs or summit thats where i got mine.

JMO, I would get a complete C4 with bell, preferably a 157 tooth, instead of the 164. Then get the 50oz flexplate to match either one. Will have to get the correct converter to fit each one also. There are some flexplates drilled for both size converters. but still have to match the correct bell. Won't go into long detail, but the C4's can be found with 3 or 4 or 5 disc clutch packs. Definately go with 5 for reliability and longevety, there are lot's of site's with all the code #'s for each tranny and the years. Most tags are long gone, so it is sometimes hard to determine, if you are not familiar with this sort of thing. PAA prefix on a tag, should be a five disc drum, unless someone got into it and changed parts etc.

Well, I was thinking about getting an AOD for the 302, would that be fine? I'm not looking to spend too much time with the trans. I'm just an amateur, I'm mainly concerned about getting the engine rebuilt with the least amount of help from paw bear. So, I was thinking about maybe finding an AOD, or some other auto thats more than a three speed, which works, and just slapping it on there, of course after buying the right hardware and a new flexplate!

AOD is not just slapping it there , takes some work , c4 is your easiest automatic option

Do a search on AOD's. Frank (71gold) just put one in his '73 Grabber and loves it. It is not as easy as a C4, but it is doable.

Got my flexplate from Summit, TCI brand, SFI and hammer-tone black/silver, was like $69.00 I think? Nice looking thing for the money.
