Question on low end stumble.

    Hey all, just got a 73 mav with a 302, the car has a edelbrock 4 brl on it, when at stoplights is is a very rough idle and sometimes dies, when taking off it sputters alot untill about 1500 or so rpms and then takes off like nothing happened, I'm pretty new to 4 brl carbs, it's alot more intimidating than my old 200 1 brl. So what do you all suggest, to rich? To lean? Any feedback is appriciated.

    You need to start by making sure that the air/fuel mixture is adjusted properly and that there are no vacuum leaks....

    basics first.

    Start by checking your timing.
    Then do as T.L. said as well as basic tune up stuff.
    Is the rig still running points?
    Usually you can make something like this go away pretty easily just by making sure all the easy stuff is taken care of.
    You'll win.

    Also; a bad vacuum advance diaphragm on your distributor can cause a part-throttle hesitation. Took me two years to figure something that simple out. :rolleyes:

    It's a cheap part and it's easy to test: with the distributor cap off connect one piece of vacuum hose to the diaphragm can and suck on the other end. You should be able to see the advance levers move inside the distributer, and move back when you stop sucking on the hose...

    TL is right, check the vacuum advance. They dry out and crack, really easy to replace and inexpensive too. Carb and vacuum lines need to be checked too.
