Just got the mav like a week ago, just got the tag yesterday, been driving around without too much difficulty, but when it get warmed up the tranny acts funny... when at a stop and hit the accelerator, it ...hiccups... then get going just fine, engine runs smooth. Also when at about 30 mph and 2 1/2 rpm, coasting, it also like catches and sputters and carries on 'n whatnot, but it doesnt coast. its like the clutch sticks er somethin (if it were a manual thats what it feels like). the guys at the auto parts store says its probly the rotor in between the tranny and the engin. Does anyone have any advice? Maybe a price range? Is it serious? Can I still drive the car without fear of destroying important stuff? I need advice. Thankyou all for your time and consideration.
i am not a tranmission expert. i do suggest though that you make sure you have enough tranny fluid. is it nice and red? check the vacuum line to be sure it is snug and not leaking. for about 10 bucks, put on a new vacuum modulator. (that round thing under the car on the tranny that has a rubber hose from the engine going to it.. these are real cheap things to try. if these don't help, have a local shop do a transmission service on it. don't go to a tranny shop unless you trust thema LOT!!!!! seems like they are famous for telling you that you need a new transmission when all you really need is some tinkering. sometimes these problems you are describing is nothin more than the linkage being out of adjustment. like i said i am not a tranny - tologist but i have had similar things happen with my mavs and the problems were all things i just mentioned. best of luck!
almost sounds like the sprag in the converter is slipping or broken. Usually if that happens, there will be all sorts of aluminum and steel parts laying in the trans pan. Pull the pan and have a looksee...go ahead and get a filter and some fluid and change both while you're under it. If you see the telltale signs of metal in the pan, it's time for an overhaul with new torque converter.
s-man, if you want to do this yourself and have not done one, let us know and someone can walk you through it....just a few bolts and i think a spring and o-ring. let us know...frank...
