a buddy of mine has a ford 9" rear axle setup out of a 68 torino, with a 3:70 gear ratio.(haven't seen it yet)will this bolt into a maverick without too much trouble?i found a few web pages on ford axle specs, and just about every other one has conflicting sizes for the same axle.(example)67/68 mustang used two different axle lengths.other than a few cosmetic changes,i thought the 67/68 mustang's were identical any help, suggestions are appreciated, chuck.
It might be too wide. Maverick stock width is 56 1/2" I forget what the leaf spring perch measurement is off hand.
thats what i thought, but one of the sites i visited, according to whoever made up the chart says that it will be narrower.
Well, see if you can get a measurement and let us know. Should be from the outside of one axle flange to the other. For the spring perches, measure from the inside of one to the ouside of the other. That should give you a center mounting distance.
A maverick rear is 56 1/4" mounting surface to mounting surface and spring perchases are 2 1/2" wide and 42 3/4? center to center.
Torino spring perches are wider than Mustang/Maverick/Granada, those are the common swaps. The Torino rear is also surely wider... Get the rear and have the axle tubes cut off and weld on 8" (5 lug) axle tubes from a Maverick. As long as it's a 28 spline chunk, it will work fine. Get a shop to do it that narrows rears. They will do a good job, but it is a lot less work this way, so it's cheaper. Dave
