I have a 71 Mav, with the 200-I6, automatic trans. I need to replace the oil pan gasket. Can this be done without pulling the engine?

    Thanks in advance
    Glen

Don't see why not. I have done it on a v8 car and all I had to do was remove the belly bar (not on 6 cylinder cars) and take out the 2 bolts for the idler arm to drop the steering linkage down for clearance.

you wont need to remove but you'll need to take the front sway bar out to get the pan out and probably undo the motor mounts and jack the engine up a little with a floor jack. i think on 170's and 200's the timong cover either needs to come off or be losened

I have done this before. Unbolt the engine from the mounts and rise the engine. You need to do this to remove the oil pan. The oil pump blocks the pan from clearing. Don't mess with the linkage.
